My Education and Professional Experience.
Professor of Data Science
since 2016
Tenured Professor of Data Science at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences, Department of Computer Science. I am teaching basic computer science courses, such as Programming in Java and Introdution to Computer Science. Additionally, I am giving Data Science lectures in the area of noSQL databases and Machine Learning. Details can also be found on my university homepage.

Assistant Professor (Kyushu University)
2014-2016
Working as a Research Assistant Professor (prior Research Fellow) at Kyushu University in the Department of Advanced Information Technology. As a member of the COI Stream Project I am working on sensor data forecasting using multivariate non-linear regression.

2011-2014
Ph.D. student enrolled at the University of Kaiserslautern in the Computer Science Department. I completed my Thesis "Anomaly Detection in Large Datasets" in parallel to my fulltime job at the DFKI. My Thesis details can be found here.

Researcher at DFKI GmbH
2005-2014
I was working for 9 years at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH) as a Junior Researcher and later as a Researcher. My main research was Machine Learning, which I applied in several projects. It includes the application areas of Network Security, Fraud Detection and Prevention, Meta-Learning and Anomaly Detection. During my time at DFKI, I laid the foundation for my PhD and started many successfull open source projects. I was responsible for several industry projects, many in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom, where my research is used for security analysis. My work was published in 13 different scientific papers including a book chapter and in three granted patents.

Researcher at Stanford University
2004-2005
As a visiting researcher at Stanford University I was able to complete my Master's Thesis at the Radiology Sciences Lab, where I was working on X-ray 3D reconstruction. My thesis is entitled "Image Quality Limitations of C-Arm CT Systems due to non-ideal Imaging Trajectories".

Research Student at Siemens Medical
2002-2003
I completed my German Diploma Thesis "Scalable Streaming of Medical Images using JPEG-2000" in cooperation with Siemens Medical Solutions (now: Siemens Healthineers). I investigated how big medical images could be transferred efficiently over a network. Nowadays, the approach has been standardized in DICOM as well as in JPIP. More details about my thesis can be found in my granted patent application.

I studied Computer Science in Media at Furtwangen University. I gratuated with a German Diploma, similar to a B.Sc. Hons. at the Faculty of Digital Media. My studies included computer science, media technology and design.

Internship at toplink-planet GmbH
2001
6 months internship at toplink-planet GmbH (now toplink) working as a web developer with PHP3, MySQL and various Linux tools. My goal was to implement an automatic IP accounting system for this ISP.

Internship at a.f.i.m. GmbH
2000
6 months internship at a.f.i.m. GmbH (out of business now) working as a web developer and backend programmer with PHP, MySQL, Java, Oracle and SSJS. I was mainly working for BMW creating a applicaiton for dynamic information about parking garage capacities. The system is still available and part of BMW connected drive today.
